In an interview yesterday, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial said he has certified the list pursuant to ARRA’s Section 1511.
He said the CNMI stimulus team continues to submit grant applications to the federal government.
Fitial said when he issues a certification, that means the package proposal is complete and have fully been reviewed.
So far, the governor said he has certified highway infrastructure projects that cost over $15 million.
The CNMI Territorial Transportation Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2009 to 2011 involves 11 infrastructure projects, the governor said.
These include the three phases of the Cross-Island Road Improvement Project, Route 36 or Windward Road, Tun Herman Pan Road and drainage improvements, Beach Road/Tun Segundo Street intersection traffic signal system, Route 200 hazard elimination overlay, Route 21 hazard elimination overlay, Route 10 hazard elimination overlay, Route 100 road improvement, environmental assessment and preliminary engineering and other road improvement projects on Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
In his certification addressed to the U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Fitial said the proposed projects are appropriate uses of taxpayer dollars.
