DLNR submitted earlier this year over $3 million worth of “shovel-ready” projects that will be funded under the stimulus law, or the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
Seman said the four projects that were included by the CNMI stimulus team are the $850,000 slaughterhouse rehabilitation and improvement project in As Perdido; the $2.2 million public fishermen and farmers market; the $100,000 irrigation improvement project for the Kagman commercial farm plots; and the $212,000 agriculture nursery for the propagation of crops.
The $200,000 proposal to purchase new tractors for the Kagman farm is not likely to be included, Seman said.
The stimulus team’s deadline for the submission of proposals is on Friday, and all the proposals are now undergoing a final review.
The grant writers, Seman said, have already “enhanced” DLNR’s four proposals, the granting agencies for which are the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Seman said the public market is the most “shovel-ready” among their proposals while the rest are still in the “design and build” stage.
