A memorandum dated January 19, stated that the authority given to Diaz will include “ but not limited to, public hearings and sessions.”
It added, “you are further authorized with giving the final approval of any editing of audio and or video recordings of the Senate businesses as may be needed, in consultation with the Senate President.”Earlier a senate resolution was introduced which will bar members of the media from videotaping or filming inside the Senate Chamber.Senate Resolution 8-31, amends Senate rule of procedure regarding sessions, debate, decorum and discipline.The resolution seeks to modify the section regarding the media’s reportage of the proceedings.The resolution was not adopted and referred to the Committee of the Whole.The modified version will now read as follows: “members of the press and other representatives of the public communication media desiring to report the proceedings of the Senate to the public may be admitted to the Senate by the President. The President may assign such persons to a place and facilities which will not interfere with the operation of the Senate. Provided, however, that no person, whether a representative of the public communication media or otherwise, may videotape or film in the Senate Chambers.”
