Taxi driver gets 6 months for using another man’s passport

U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson imposed a six-month jail sentence on Jiang Zhe Jun, with credit for time already served in jail and a supervised release of two years subject to several conditions.

After his release from prison, the defendant will be referred to an immigration official for deportation proceedings.

If he will not be deported, he must immediately report to the U.S. Probation Office.

Jiang appeared in court with his counsel, Steve Pixley. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Schuler represented the federal government.

Jiang attempted to use the passport of Yin Ming Hao in August last year.

Jiang has been charged for overstaying in the CNMI.

He was questioned by authorities on July 17, 2008 on suspicion of driving an illegal taxi. Jiang told police that his name was Yin Ming Hao and he surrendered Yin Ming Hao’s passport to CNMI immigration officials.

Jiang agreed to deportation on Aug. 14, 2008 and immigration officials assisted him in checking in at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport,

He said  he just needed to talk to a friend but did not return.

Immigration officials learned that he went to the parking lot and handed the passport to Yin Ming Hao who then attempted to board the flight  but immigration officials arrested him.

Last March, Munson sentenced Yin Ming Hao to three years probation.
