The training under the supervisory of Trudie A. Mahoney, Cooperative Fire Assistant for the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service started on Monday and will end on Friday.
Mahoney said they are teaching the participants to respond to emergency and disaster incidents using the same methods.“Incident Command System is a concept or management tool so when you respond to emergency basically you are using the same actions every time you respond and we have incident command, we have operation section, planning section, logistic section and the finance and admin section so every emergency you go through, no matter if its flood, typhoon or tsunami, you always use the same method, the same way of approaching every disaster,” Mahoney said in an interview on Wednesday.“People will change, the disaster change, the operations change but the process is very similar in saving life and in saving property or stabilizing the situation,” she added. The goal of the training is for the responders to work as a team and to have inter -agency cooperation so that personnel from Police department, Fire and private sectors will be working together for the good of saving life and people.Mahoney said they were here two years ago and conduct basic training for the responders. She said they taught the participants of some basic task and now they are teaching them intermedial course. The training was held at the Palau Community College’s classroom.Minister of Justice Johnny Gibbons will grace on Friday to attend the closing ceremony.
