Rotary Club president Ben Babauta said this year’s winners will receive $1,000, $750 and $500 prizes for the first, second and third placers. All participating schools will also get $200 as consolation prizes.
Also at stake for the winners and best producers are pool passes, overnight stay with breakfast at the Pacific Islands Club, trophies and other attractive prizes.
“Last year we only had seven participating schools but this time we have nine,” Babauta said.
The schools who will compete this year are Garapan Elementary School, Grace Christian Academy, Kagman Elementary School, Koblerville Elementary School, Oleai Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, Tanapag Elementary School, Dandan Elementary School and GTC Elementary School.
Last year, San Vicente bested other contestants with its dynamic presentation of “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley. The school brought home a trophy and $700.
Oleai’s presentation of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” by Jacob Grimm won $500 and a trophy for second place.
Tinian Elementary School’s “King Bidgood’s in the Bathtub” by Audrey Wood came third and was awarded $300 and a trophy.
All other participating schools received a consolation prize of $100 each.
The Parade of Books, organized by the Rotary Club of Saipan, aims to promote literacy and reading among students.
“We are inviting the community to support their students as they showcase their talents through the Parade of Books,” Babauta said.
