Toribiong issues new E.O. regarding continental shelf Task Force

Executive Order No. 261, changes Executive Order No. 243 in order to conform to the new nomenclatures of certain cabinet ministries.

Executive Order No. 243 establishes Palau’s Extended Continental Shelf Task Force together with its subsidiary body known as a Study Team.E.O. 261, stated that designations of compositions of the eCSTF itself and it was based on the previous administration’s ministries some of which has been subsequently renamed by a law and must be changed.The task force is mandated to review, evaluate the final product or Palau’s claim for its Continental Shelf.The deadline for the submission of Continental Shelf claims to the United Nations is on May 13, 2009.The new order stated that the Task Force will be composed of the Minister of State, Vice President, Minister of Public Infrastructure, Industries and Commerce, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Tourism, one member appointed by the president , Attorney General, Program Manager of the Palau Automated Land and Resource Information System (PALARIS) .The task force will be chaired by the Minister of State.The task force will continue to use the previous E.O. as a guide in carrying out its function, duties and responsibilities as well as in exercising powers and authorities.
