This followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Solomons Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer and Chief Magistrate of PNG John Numapo.
PNG has been providing magistrates to Solomon Islands in past years under the PNG judicial assistance program.
Under the MOA, PNG will assume new responsibilities and obligations to its magistrates while working in Solomon Islands.
This includes the PNG government taking full responsibility in paying for all the costs pertaining to the deployment.
Palmer thanked the government of PNG for its commitment and continuous support to the Solomon Islands magistracy.
“I want to acknowledge the support of PNG Chief Magistrate John Numapo and PNG High Commissioner His Excellency Parai Tamei,” he said.
Numapo said his government is fully committed to continue with the assistance to Solomon Islands.
“I was directed by the PNG Judicial and Legal Service Commission to come over to consult on the matter,” he said.
“I am grateful to Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer Permanent Secretary James Remobatu and their officials for the understanding and the signing of the review and amendment to the agreement. PNG is committed to continue with this judicial assistance arrangement.”
