Japan group marks 80th anniversary of WWII’s end

ON this solemn occasion marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender on Aug. 15, 1945, the Japanese Society of the Northern Mariana Islands extended its heartfelt wish for lasting world peace.

“We express our deep gratitude to the community for their continued efforts in preserving the memorial sites on our islands, which serve as enduring reminders of the importance of peace and reconciliation.”

In honor of this day, the Society held its annual memorial site cleanup on Aug. 9 in Susupe and Marpi. This effort was made possible through the support and cooperation of the Japan Saipan Travel Association, the Marianas Visitors Authority, DLNR-Parks and Recreation, the Japan Consulate Office in Saipan, and the many dedicated volunteers who generously gave their time to help maintain these important sites.

The Japanese Society of the Northern Mariana Islands remains committed to fostering understanding, friendship, and peace among all communities.
