Franz Reksit, DPL Brownfield project coordinator, in an interview yesterday said the project will pave the way for the construction of a new landfill on Tinian.
Reksit hopes that the Tinian Brownfield project won’t be as controversial as the Marpi Brownfield project.
The Tinian legislative delegation has been pushing for a new landfill for years now.
The lawmakers said the old landfill has been polluting the air and the nearby Barcinas Bay.
It is also hampering aircraft landing at the nearby airport.
Reksit said the new landfill is located on the northeast part of Tinian.
He said he was told that there was no presence of the nightingale reed warbler or Micronesian megapode at the site.
