Barcinas, the current DARE president, said he and Officer Joe Suares discussed how the program can be implemented on Rota and Tinian.
“I feel that program is very important for our kids and I would like to continue this program next school year for the new first graders,” he said.
Last week, Suares and his staff conducted presentations to three first grade classes.
At DES, Officer Nathan Bermudes conducted the presentation, Barcinas said.
“It was a success. The kids had great time learning about safety signs, talking to strangers, and 911,” he told Variety.
Barcinas said he was very impressed with the presenter who was shared information in a way that was easily understood by first graders.
He said the students were able to answer many questions that the officer asked of them.
He thanked Bermudes, the DARE program and the teachers for opening their doors “to such important lessons for our children.”
DARE is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.
