Yap to mark tree planting day on June 1

According to the chief of the Division of Agriculture and Forestry, Tamdad Sulog who led the discussion, two sites have been designated and are open to the public, private individuals, groups and clubs to plant trees on Tree Planting Day.

One of the sites is at the same area as last year within the village of Makiy in Gagil.

The other site will be at a new location within the village of Okaw in the municipality of Weloy.

Sulog said the Department of Agriculture will be providing free compost and seedlings for people to use for plant on that day however, participants or people who wish to join the tree planting to be responsible for bringing their own planting tools to the sites.

The division is encouraging everyone to continue efforts by planting more trees so we will have more trees on the island.

The Agriculture group also highlighted the importance and enormous contributions by trees to our economy, health and well being.

They said that trees have sustained us in many ways for most trees produces oxygen in air to enable breathing, provide food, nutrient in soil, protect us from heat and strong winds during typhoons, prevent land erosion and more.
