Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, who signed the proclamation yesterday, is urging everybody to observe the week with appropriate ceremonies in observance and commemoration of past and present law enforcement officers.
“I call upon all CNMI residents, patriotic, civic and educational organizations to honor those who by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities, have rendered dedicated service to their communities and have established for themselves an enviable and enduring reputation for preserving the rights and security of all citizens of the commonwealth,” Fitial said.
The proclamation also declared May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, in honor of law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice to their community or have become disabled in the performance of their duty.
Fitial also signed four other proclamations designating May 17-23 as Emergency Medical Services Week, May 21 as Emergency Medical Services for Children Day, May 17-23 as CNMI Safe Boating Week, and May 22-31 as Click it or Ticket Mobilization. Department of Public Safety spokesman PO2 Eric David said it is important for the people to know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards and sacrifices of DPS and ports police officers in safeguarding lives and properties. The proclamation signing was witnessed by DPS Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela, Lt. Gov. Eloy Inos, DPS officers, and representatives from other agencies.
