MMA wants NMASA membership

Trench Tech Purebred Saipan president Cuki Alvarez has submitted last month, an application to join NMASA, according to its president Michael White.

The MMA’s application to be NMASA member was brought up during   last month’s regular meeting but it was decided that the consideration be deferred until a representative of Trenchtech is present in the meeting.

Aside from Trench Tech, there four other MMA organizations on the island, two of which are the Predator and the Marianas Elite.

In an interview yesterday, Alvarez said they want to become a part of the NMASA family because MMA, like any other sports produces the best athletes and they want to be recognized as the kind of sports that can make the island proud.

He said NMI has over 150 MMA fighters including 35 members of the Trench Tech.

Alvarez stressed that MMA is not sport that promotes camaraderie and sportsmanship among the youth and should not be looked at as violent activity.

One of the main considerations in doing MMA is safety of every participant.

Trench Tech organizes regular MMA fights like the Trench Warz and the Rites of Passage.

The newest MMA group, the Gorilla Warfare has recently held its second big event where scores of fighters from different gym participated, and hundreds watched.
