After 3 Program launched

“Seeds of Promise Palau” is the local non-profit organization that runs this great program for kids who want a place to have fun and learn in a supervised environment after school.

Seeds of Promise hosted an informal ribbon-cutting ceremony last week to thank Rotary Club President Tina Salii and the other members of the Rotary Club for their contributions to the “After Three Program.” The Rotary Club of Palau donated computers, printers, a digital camera, computer desks, chairs, computer software, and a small library to the program.Dr. Caleb Otto gave a brief presentation to the children participating in the program, and explained the types of charitable work the Rotary Club undertakes in Palau and throughout the world. “We are very happy that we were able to help,” said Tina Salii, “and we hope that people will take advantage of this unique, educational program for their kids.”  The “After Three Program” is designed for kids from 10 to 14 years old. It is intended to keep kids off the streets, off drugs and alcohol, and involved in fun, educational activities. The program emphasizes how to make good choices in life and build character. It provides a fun, safe environment where kids can study, read, learn computer skills, and participate in organized activities led by mentors at Seeds of Promise.The Rotary Club is also be partnering with Seeds of Promise for the acquisition of a wheelchair accessible minibus. The Rotary Club chose to work with Seeds of Promise because of their proven commitment to the health, education, and well-being of children.The Rotary Club has sponsored numerous projects throughout Palau including cancer awareness, literacy programs, the renovation of school libraries, the building of children’s parks, and the provision of clean water in schools. Such programs are made possible because of contributions from Rotary Club members in Palau and abroad and fundraising events such as the Rotary Cup fishing tournament.Anyone interested in participating in the “After Three Program” or other programs sponsored by Seeds of Promise can contact Veronica Fox at 488-2405.
