‘Pistang Pinoy’ on Sunday

Minda Castro, event coordinator, said the United Filipino Organization will present entertainers and other performers during the whole day event which starts at 11 a.m. at the Susupe Civic Center.

This year’s celebration will feature fun and games as well as prizes and giveaways, Castro said.

UFO conceptualized the event and is the principal organizer of Pistang Pinoy.

Castro said they are hoping that the festivities will help Filipino workers to forget their problems at least for a few hours.

Castro said the entertainers will include well-known Filipino talents on Saipan: Paul Dujua, Joanne Cabrera, Rose Lazaro, Nikki Canape, Hyatt’s Star Society, Michelle Villarasa & Company, Soulful Acoustic, Uncle Ben’s Studio, Project Impact Dancers, High Pitch Band, Rated R Bands, Walden & Violy and the Icon Band of PIC.

Castro said a surprise guest from Guam and other entertainers will perform on Sunday.

“We  expect to see new faces and fresh talents,” she added.

UFO has also invited performers from Tinian and Rota to join  Pistang Pinoy.

UFO president Olive Yana said prior to the festivities, the Philippine Consulate General, in coordination with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, will offer free medical screening at the Marianas Business Center starting at 7 a.m.

The  free health screening for blood pressure, sugar level, and vision check-up will be conducted by the Hardt Eye Clinic and medical volunteers from the Commonwealth Health Center.

During Pistang Pinoy, Consul General Wilfredo DL. Maximo is expected to deliver his inspirational message.

The Genesis Choir will perform the opening song and will be followed by the Dela Cruz Sisters — Miki, Tanya and Akiko.

Glen Mesina and Lalaine Pagapular will sing  “Makabayan.”

The Pistang Pinoy committee members are Yana, over-all chairwoman; Castro, event coordinator; Yana, Melvin Malvar and Annamae Adaza, souvenir program committee; Paul Madriaga and Melvin Malvar, solicitation coordinators; Flor Miranda, Tony Soriano and Bok Enano, vendors coordinators; Edgardo Reyes and Leo Canedo, physical arrangement committee; Ladyvir Canape, Evelyn Deazeta and Nelida Atalig, stage decorations coordinators; Jack Galvez, video and photography; Lolit Velasco, Mylene Macapagal  and Cora Balita, food committee; and Bong Malasarte, power consultant.
