Customs, task force officers to testify against drug trafficking defendant

THE criminal division of the Attorney General’s Office has summoned a CNMI Customs officer and a Drug Enforcement Task Force officer to testify in the preliminary hearing against Yuzhu Zhang who was charged with importation of contraband, trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.

Drug Enforcement Task Force Officer Mcknox Mabel and CNMI Customs Officer Franklin Sablan were ordered to appear before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho on March 30 at 10 a.m. to testify in the drug interdiction case in which 4.9 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of $700,000 were seized.

The AG’s office is also asking telecommunication companies Docomo Saipan and IT&E to provide, within seven days, all toll order, text messages, account holder information to include the service application and database records of the defendant’s cell phone numbers in their possession from Jan. 21, 2022 to March 21, 2022.

On Monday, Judge Camacho imposed $1 million cash bail on Zhang, 48, who was accused of attempting to smuggle, through mail from California, 4.9 pounds of methamphetamine.
