Jim Stowell named high court administrator, PIO

(Office of the Clerk of Court) — Jim Stowell has been named administrator and public information officer for the CNMI Supreme Court.

Stowell took on his new role June 22 replacing Gin Gridley who initially had held the position and left island for Washington, D.C. to further her education.

Stowell, a long term resident of Saipan, first arrived here in 1991 as the general manager of Saipan Cable TV.

He later held positions with Matson Navigation and for 12 years he worked with Pacific Island Aviation Inc. in several capacities including director of safety and chief operating officer.

He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in communications.

Stowell said he is pleased to assume this dual role for the Supreme Court — it will provide both the general administration and public relations opportunities that he has enjoyed with his other employers on Saipan.

Commenting on the work environment at the court, Stowell said: “It is as much about whom you are doing it with as what you are doing. Being surrounded by many of the CNMI’s best and brightest will certainly be mentally stimulating. Additionally, I hope to help make the court process more efficient for everybody’s benefit and to communicate to the public that there are friendly and helpful people inside the House of Justice. A long term goal is to provide greater access to court services through the Internet, with the theme, ‘Avoid the line, go on line.’ ”

Chief Justice Miguel Demapan stated: “Mr. Stowell’s broad managerial experience, dedication to the community and imaginative spirit will serve the judiciary well. We consider ourselves fortunate to have him working with us.”
