Okinawa group visits Saipan

Zenichi Taira, vice chairman of the Micronesian Repatriation Association of Okinawa, led the group in conducting their 40th Annual Memorial Service at the Okinawan Memorial Tower located next to the Last Command Post in Marpi.

After the service, some of the group members toured the island.

In the evening, a goodwill friendship night was held at the Hafadai Beach Hotel.

Local guests included Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos, Saipan Mayor Juan  B. Tudela and Japanese Consul Tsutomo Higuchi.

They attended the reception and enjoyed the Okinawa Ryukyu dance and music performed by Tamashiro Setsuko, Ryoko Higa and Choichi Terukina.

On the following day, about 150 people visited Tinian for their 32rd Annual Memorial Service at the Suicide Cliff there. Three members went to Rota for a memorial service.

In the evening, the Tinian Mayor’s Office presented a resolution to Chozen Ginoza for his contributions to the CNMI.

Due to his health condition, Ginoza had to remain on Saipan.

Although their schedule was very tight and they had to leave Saipan on May 29, some members managed to meet their friends and family here.
