Governor: Sugar Dock will have new pavilion

GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres on Thursday personally informed the officers and members of Bantalan Sugar Dock Inc. that they will have a brand new pavilion in about one month.

With the governor were Infrastructure and Recovery Program or IRP civil engineer Mariano Iglesias and Department of Lands and Natural Resources Secretary Anthony Benavente.

They met with Bantalan president Ramon Cabrera, adviser Martin Ada and other officers of the group at Sugar Dock in Chalan Kanoa at 10 a.m.

Iglesias informed them that the architectural and engineering design has been completed, and they have already obtained a price quotation from a construction company.

The governor said it will be a project not only for Bantalan Sugar Dock Inc., but also for other members of the community who frequent the beach area.

“We have been working on this in the last month, and hopefully by next week or two we will be able to sign a notice to proceed with the contractor to start the construction,” the governor said.

“And once they start, hopefully it would take only a month for the Bantalan Sugar Dock Inc. to have a new pavilion. This is one of my administration’s project under the Infrastructure and Recovery Program,” the governor said as he expressed appreciation for the community organization that has been maintaining the Sugar Dock beach park for many years now.

For his part, DLNR Secretary Benavente said his department is working with the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. to look into the possibility of an outdoor shower or a restroom in the beach area.

Bantalan president Cabrera said the pavilion project is a positive development for the community. On behalf of the Bantalan group, he expressed gratitude to the governor for his support.

According to Martin Ada, “We are so lucky we have the IRP to help us with this, as well as the DLNR secretary who will help us with the water connection. The other Bantalan officers and members are really excited.”
