Training specialist Kyle Clark of the Florida-based Institute of Police Technology and Management told the Variety that the course, which started on June 15, was the first of three.
Clark said the session on “Fundamental Crash Investigation” taught the police officers more advanced techniques in investigating traffic crashes.
“The police officers have a basic knowledge of traffic investigation but this course is more extensive,” Clark said.
He added that the participants got hands-on training and two-day field work on determining the speed of the vehicles in a crash by measuring the skid marks and drawing the actual crash.
“The police officers can easily get evidence and it would be easier to conduct an investigation when they already have gathered evidences,” Clark said.
The second and third courses are Advanced Crash Investigation and Traffic Crash Reconstruction.
“We conduct this training once a year, and the participants are chosen from different divisions of the police department,” Clark said.
