Fernandez said she made a presentation about the college’s continuing efforts to meet accreditation requirements.
It appeared that the commission received the presentation favorably, she said.
NMC Chairman Charles Cepeda was also present during the presentation.
“We also had a good meeting with Dr. Barbara Beno, the commission president, and Dr. Lurelean Gainess, the chair, during the trip,” Fernandez said.
The college is now awaiting the commission’s decision, which will be communicated to NMC either at the end of June or early July.
Fernandez reiterated that the college remains accredited, saying that all academic credits and degrees from NMC are accredited and will be transferable to other accredited institutions.
In her trip report to the NMC community, Fernandez thanked the faculty, staff, students, and other personnel for their commitment and dedication to the college.
The college submitted its most recent Supplemental Show Cause Report to the commission on May 29.
The report contained further evidentiary data that supported the college’s compliance with the commission’s recommendations.
The report also contained the 2009 update to the Key Performance Indicators and Benchmarks that was first compiled in 2005.
Fernandez said the purpose of this report is to provide the college quantifiable measurements of goal and objectives that are directly tied to its strategic plan.
She said the commission has already acknowledged and recognized the work that the college has done to comply with accreditation requirements that deal with student learning outcomes, employee evaluations, facility renovations and repair, and administrative capacity.
As a result, she added, the college was not required to report on these issues in the April 1, 2009 Show Cause Report that was submitted earlier.
