Letter to the Editor: Dear Secretary Napolitano

I have enclosed copies of some of these reports, which indicate that U.S. passport holders and “green card” holders traveling through Guam from the Northern Mariana Islands have been needlessly detained and subject to verbal abuse by Homeland Security immigration officials. There are also reports that Homeland Security immigration officials in Guam have informed green card holders from the Northern Mariana Islands that they would not be able to re-enter the Northern Mariana Islands without employment authorization — a statement which is not only false, but it also beyond the purview of federal immigration officials.

These reports are deeply troubling at a time when there is a heightened need for trust between my constituents in the Northern Mariana Islands and the Department of Homeland Security. I thank you for your prompt investigation of these reports and speedy resolution of any problems those investigations reveal.
