SAIPAN Southern High School women’s team leads the Public School System Interscholastic Outrigger Race series after a flawless, first round 20-point performance Saturday at Kilili Beach.
In the 500m event, SSHS finished first in the preliminary and final rounds.
In the preliminary round, SSHS clocked 03:36.350 or nine seconds ahead of the competition to clinch a first place finish and earn five points.
In second place was Marianas High School which cleared the course with a time of 03:45.445 for three points while Kagman High School came in at third with a time of 03:50.770 for one point.
In the final round, SSHS reigned supreme once again, completing the course with a time of 03:37.320 to earn 10 points.
The battle for second place was intense as MHS failed to stay consistent allowing KHS to slip by with a time of 03:42.400 for three points. MHS ended in third place at 03:50.490 for one point.
Although both teams had four points apiece, KHS’s final performance gave them overall second place.
In the 1000m distance event, SSHS was still the team to beat as they cleared both heats in first place once again.
SSHS finished the preliminaries with a time of 07:36.610, followed by KHS, 07:47.000; and MHS, 07:48.290.
In the final round, SSHS struggled a bit but still finished first with a time of 07:46.440 for another 10-point performance.
As for the battle for second place, it was flipped again, and this time it was MHS that prevailed, clocking 07:54.570 while KHS came in third at 08:22.310.
MHS finished second place overall while KHS settled for third place overall.
