But only six slots are available, according to BRM account manager Susan Marchitti in an interview last week.
“We are reducing the number of bands to compete this year because we will be including a fashion show,” Marchitti said.
With this, she is urging amateur bands with at least two members to contact them immediately as registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
“Any band that had not been performing professionally is welcome to apply, and registration is free,” she said.
Marchitti added that BRM cover models, Northern Marianas College students and children aged 8 to 12 will be showcasing fabulous clothes collections from Joeten Shopping Center and its affiliates—The Athlete’s Foot, Boarderline, and All Star Sporting Goods as part of Joeten’s 60th anniversary celebration. Fiesta Resort & Spa events coordinator Oscar Yema will choreograph the event while Taro Sue will provide the lights and sounds.
Models will showcase back-to-school lines as well as everyday casual, beach wear, formal and business wear, and a little of everything to cater to the island’s fashion for youth and adults.
“We would like to invite the whole community to the Summer Jam and Glam. It is a family affair, open to all age groups,” Marchitti said.
The 2008 Saipan Summer Jam at Club V of Saipan Grand Hotel drew in a huge crowd, prompting BRM to seek for a bigger place this year. Last year’s winners were Burning Bush, High Pitch and Frozen Nipple.
Summer Jam & Glam is presented by Shell Marianas with Joeten Enterprises, Northern Marianas College, Marpac, Tan Holdings Corporation, Coca Cola Beverage (Micronesia) Inc., Foremost and the Florida-based Adam’s Marine Seminars.
At stake for the band competition are $200 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place, and other consolation prizes.
Marchitti said tickets for the show costs $5, inclusive of one non-alcoholic drink.
Amateur bands may stop by Beach Road Magazine offices on the second floor of Transpac Business Center (above Dial Rent to Own) near Subway Gualo Rai or call BRM at 670-235-7645 for more details.
