Fernandez is new PPEC chair

“Your support truly exemplifies the purpose of this great organization, which is to support each other and to ensure that we continuously excel as American higher education institutions,” Fernandez told her colleagues after the election early this month in Honolulu, Hawaii.

NMC Board of Regents chairman Charles Cepeda expressed his gratitude and offered his congratulations to Fernandez.

The PPEC is composed of chief executive officers and presidents of the region’s colleges and universities–American Samoa Community College, the College of Micronesia-FSM, the College of the Marshall Islands, Guam Community College, Palau Community College, the University of Guam, the University of Hawaii Community College System office, the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Hawaii Community College, Honolulu Community College, and Kapiolani Community College.

Fernandez said the purpose of the Council is to encourage and develop regional planning of postsecondary education throughout the Pacific.

The Council also serves as a forum to address common issues and to foster cooperation in solving common problems facing the students—and on a broader level—the people of the Pacific region, she added.

Fernandez said that members of the Council are encouraged to share resources and expertise with other member institutions to promote collaboration and the efficient use of limited resources.

Members of the Council also engage in activities to support the maintenance of accreditation at all member institutions, she added.

Fernandez thanked PPEC members for their strong support during NMC’s show cause period. She also thanked Dr. Mary Okada, president of Guam Community College, for providing free consultation about NMC’s program review process model and system.

She said that Okada also donated training support for NMC’s bookstore managers.
