This, according to Department of Public Safety commissioner Santiago F. Tudela in yesterday’s press briefing, would be to improve the image of the department.
Tudela said that police officers on duty will no longer be allowed to wear the black shirts most of them are wearing now.
Tudela said that the new dress code applies especially to the department’s front liners which are the patrol and traffic police officers. He however added that the fire patrol and boating safety officers will be exempted from wearing the Class B uniforms.
“They can continue wearing their polo shirt uniforms,” Tudela said.
The Class B uniform of the police officers has the badge and name plate. The uniform polo shirt, on the other hand contains only patches.
Tudela added that the new dress code is mandatory because they would like to give the police officers and the whole department a ‘more professional’ look.
“All the supervisors will see to it that the police officers will comply with the new uniform rules, or they will be dealt with accordingly,” Tudela added.
