DEMOCRATIC Rep. Sheila Babauta of Precinct 4 was invited to speak at the 8th Annual CNMI Women’s Summit where she hopes to empower women with three easy things they can do to lead the conversation on militarization in the Pacific.
The CNMI Women’s Summit takes place Tuesday, March 29, at the Pacific Islands Club where Babauta will deliver remarks entitled “Women and Peace” and share how she learned about the ongoing militarization of the Pacific as an adult and the importance of effective communication.
“I’m excited to tell my story because it’s important for us to learn about what’s happening throughout the Pacific and right here in our islands. Women have always led the conversation about militarization and it’s important that we are able to articulate it when we speak with local, regional and leaders from around the world,” she said.
Babauta’s presentation begins at 8:45 a.m. and she will host one of the afternoon breakout sessions with her interns, Trini Iguel and Imaculada Litulumar, who will help the groups identify targets and objectives.
The Women’s Summit in Saipan comes on the tail of Babauta’s recent speaking engagement at the Future of Micronesia – Strategies for Resilience and Sustainability Conference when she shared her reflections from the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties or COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland where she delivered remarks and introduced former President Barack Obama.
The two-hour virtual was webinar hosted and curated by Indigenous Pacific Islands Knowledge Universe through an academic partnership with the University of Pittsburgh.
