Two Palauans get Taiwan scholarship

The students were selected from a number of applicants and will begin their academic journey in Taiwan starting early September.

The two students will be in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in a period of five years with the first year devoted in learning Mandarin language.The scholarship recipients will be granted a monthly stipend of NT$30,000 or US$950 to cover  related tuition, accommodation, insurance, miscellaneous fees included during their study, the scholarship also covers economy class  direct-route roundtrip airfare.The Taiwan scholarship grants cover three to five years period for a recipient to pursue his or her undergraduate master or doctoral degree in Taiwan provided that the recipient decides to study Mandarin in the first one year.With regards to the granting process of the Taiwan scholarship, the embassy will by end of January each year, will deliver complete information such as the number of recipients of each academic year and application documents to the Palau National Scholarship Board (PNSB).The PNSB in turn will run public announcements of the scholar offerings.The Taiwan scholarship deadline is usually set at the end of March.The PNSB will then send its recommendation list as a result of the screening to the embassy by mid –April for further review and then it will be transmitted to Taipei for approval.The announcement is usually on mid-June.
