NMC regents reiterate support for Fernandez

He said the board is convinced that Fernandez is capable of leading NMC, the only government-owned college in the CNMI.

“The board of regents has confidence in the current NMC administration and this confidence is reflected in our recent decision to renew President Fernandez’s contract for another four years. I also assure you that the board of regents is fully aware of its obligations to NMC and takes these responsibilities seriously,” Cepeda said in a letter to Rep. Stanley T. Torres, one of Fernandez’s most vocal critics.

In the same letter, Cepeda also asked the lawmaker to reconsider his threat of taking NMC to court over its refusal to give him information regarding the details of its settlement agreement with former employees.

“As I have been informed by the president and our counsel, the documents you have requested would not be subject to disclosure under the Open Government Act as they are protected by privacy laws,” Cepeda told Torres, R-Saipan.
