Court imposes $25K cash bail on man who beats up wife, kids

The Attorney General’s Office charged Lee Jesse Omar Reyes with child abuse or neglect, assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.

Reyes appeared in court represented by Assistant Public Defender Matthew Holley. Assistant Attorney General George Hasselback represented the government.

Wiseman set the preliminary hearing for July 20 and the arraignment for July 27.

In his affidavit, Detective Christopher Leon Guerrero stated that a female reported a domestic disturbance violence incident to the Department of Public Safety at 12:54 a.m. on June 28, 2009.

Responding police officers learned that at 2 p.m. on June 27, the defendant’s common law wife was preparing milk for their baby boy, aged one and a half years old, when Reyes “came in and smacked his wife in the buttocks very hard.”

The victim turned around, pushed Reyes away and went out of the bedroom.

She returned to the bedroom later but Reyes told her to move out and leave the house.

The victim said she was helping her in-laws prepare food later when she saw Reyes pick up the sleeping baby by the arm and toss the baby to another bed approximately five feet away.

When she returned the baby to the bed, Reyes tossed the baby again.

The victim said she carried the baby to the living room but Reyes got a milk container filled with betel nut spit and threw it at the baby’s face.

The victim added that at about 11:30 p.m., Reyes came home from a party.

He told her to move out of the house.

She added that when she, the baby and their three-year-old daughter were asleep, Reyes poured cereal all over the three of them.

She said she got up but Reyes grabbed her hair and dragged her to the floor.

The victim said when she went out of the room, she turned and saw Reyes picking up the baby and tossing him out of the bedroom door.

She said the baby started crying when he landed on the floor.

The victim called her father to pick her and the children up because Reyes threatened to kill her.

The victim told police later that she did not report earlier incidents because she was scared.

Police said on occasions when Reyes and the victim had domestic disputes, Reyes would involve the children and would claim that they are not his, especially the infant who received most of the abuse from Reyes.

Reyes has a history of domestic violence and child abuse.
