3 arrested for stealing scrap metal in Marpi

Booked and detained were Antonio Aldan Ayuyu, 37; Matthew Angui Igisair, 34; and James Sanchez, 38.

Acting Department of Public Safety spokesman Jason T. Tarkong said DPS Central received a call reporting a theft incident at the hazardous explosive removal project operated by All-hazard Management Professionals, or Ampro, in Marpi at  10:47 a.m. on July 12.

Tarkong said responding police officers who met the complainant learned that several scraps of metal had been stolen from the ordnance disposal pit.

A witness told police he saw a white pick-up truck parked outside the fence of the project site earlier.

He then reported the license plate number of the pick-up to the police.

Tarkong said police officers spotted the vehicle in San Roque.

The police officers found the three suspects inside the vehicle and learned that they had just returned from a recycling center located in Lower Base.

“The suspects admitted to taking the exploded ordnance from the project site in Marpi and selling it at the recycling center in Lower Base,” Tarkong said.

He added that the three suspects were then arrested and transported to the Department of Corrections where they were booked and detained.

Tarkong said the vehicle used in the crime was impounded.
