Once DPW-Energy Office submits the required metrics, the U.S. Department of Energy will be recommending a 40 percent distribution of funds by the end of next week, he said.
He said the CNMI is the only U.S. insular area that will be receiving nearly half of the grant amount based on the U.S. Department of Energy’s recommendation.
In an e-mail, Reyes said Commerce Secretary Michael Ada believes that the projects that will be funded by ARRA “can get off the ground quickly.”
“I believe that we can get these projects started within the next two weeks to start drawing down these funds,” said Ada.
He commended the efforts of Energy Office’s Thelma Inos.
“This demonstrates that our administration is working hard to get this money and manage it responsibly,” Ada said.
The amount of the grant money was not disclosed yesterday.
