Filipino group elects new officers, vows to continue community services

Hector T. Sevilla was elected as MAFEA’s new president, replacing Norberto “Bong” de Guzman.

“I’m sure that the new leadership will continue the programs that serve the community,” de Guzman said.

MAFEA has been raising funds to help Filipino workers who have financial problems.

The group also initiated a free plan reading course for Filipino workers.

The new officers, for their part, will provide Saipan with trash bins for the Beautify CNMI program, MAFEA secretary Carlito J. Marquez said.

De Guzman said they already secured 12 drums that will be given to the Division of Parks and Recreation.

“We would always play an important role in community services,” he added.

De Guzman said they are also planning to construct a pavilion along the Beach Road area.

“I hope we can generate more funds and logistics for this project,” he said.

According to Marquez, the new officers will now oversee the transition of bank records, audited financial statements, official mailing address, and the secretary’s election certification.

The officers and board of directors will be inducted on Sept. 26, 2009.

MAFEA will meet every second and last Saturday of each month, Marquez said.

The other officers are Eric Tabanda, vice president internal; Joseph Liberato, vice president external; Carmela Fabi, treasurer; Reymond Casuncad, auditor; Veth Jimenez, public relation officer; and Ian Ramos, business manager.

The chairman of the board is Domie Aquino and the members are Andrew Mesina, Gani Salazar, Randy Jacob, Fernando Fortadez, Ric Ansay, Rommel Crisostomo and Ismael Cuenco.

MAFEA’s advisers, who comprise the council of past presidents, are de Guzman, Emmanuel Po, Renato Abarquez, Nelson Degala, Edgardo Reyes, Tim Paez, Toots Lumactod, Cecilio Dela Cruz Jr., Geoffrey Mechor, Tito Villapando, Eddie Caranzo, Ruel Villacrusis, Henry Bautista and Roger Talapian.
