Brian Melairei, CIP Manager said that a portion of the road near the airport has to be repaired due to the cracks found on the surface as a result of soil movement.
Melairei said that that the concrete has to be removed and re-compacted. He added that the traffic movement in the area has to be monitored first before repairs had to be made.He said that since the portion of the road is still covered by the one year warranty, the contractor will shoulder the cost of the repair.He said that the road was not defective and the contractor constructed the road in accordance with the standard. The soil movement however caused the cracks.He said the soil movement has also caused cracks in the Compact Road.He added that it will be hard to predict whether cracks will again resurface after the repairs.
