Fitial and Inos yesterday joined the Covenant Party supporters at their mid-term rally in Susupe.
Officials estimated the crowd to be about 2,000 or “more than what they had expected.”
The event began as early as 10 a.m. with Covenant candidates waving at motorists from the side of the road. The crowd then proceeded to the Civic Center for the rally.
The governor thanked his supporters for sticking with him.
“I feel very optimistic because it seems the people believe in experience more than rhetoric,” he told the Variety.
In a separate interview, Inos said they are “elated” by their party’s show of force.
Former Tinian Sen. David Cing, a Democrat, said he hasn’t switched to the Covenant Party but is supporting the Fitial and Inos team because “they have the experience.”
“I think they are the right candidates,” he said.
Former GOP vice president Anna S. Teregeyo has joined the Covenant Party and is one of its two Saipan senatorial candidates.
Deputy Labor Secretary Jacinta M. Kaipat is the other Covenant senatorial bet on Saipan.
Former Marianas Public Lands Authority Commissioner Edward M. Deleon Guerrero, the chairman of the Juan-Galvin team, was also seen at the Fitial-Inos rally.
Inos said the three other gubernatorial tickets are “all our closest rivals.”
He added, “We’re not taking anything for granted. We’re going to work hard. We’re competing for the same office yet we’re all friends.”
The Covenant Party’s candidates are: incumbent Jose P. San Nicolas for Tinian mayor; Sen. Joseph M. Mendiola and Joaquin H. Borja for Tinian’s senatorial seats; Rep. Edwin P. Aldan for Tinian’s House seat; Ramona Rebuenog for the Northern Islands mayoral race; and former Senate President Juan S. Demapan for Saipan mayor.
For the Saipan House seats: Precinct 1 — former Gov. Froilan C. Tenorio, Vicente C. Cabrera, Benjamin M. Cepeda, Canice K. Taitano and Antonia M. Tudela; Precinct 2 — Rep. Raymond D. Palacios and Ralph S. Demapan; Precinct 3 — Jesus M. Elameto, Henry K. Rabauliman, Eduardo S. Villagomez, David R. Maratita and former Rep. Felicidad T. Ogumoro; Precinct 4 — Thomas J.
