Democrats to file candidacies today

The third Democratic candidate is Saipan Rep. Justo S. Quitugua who is running for the Senate.

When interviewed on Saturday, Villagomez, an environmental advocate, said he was still collecting signatures for his candidacy and would soon make an official announcement.

Torres disclosed to Variety that several members of the community, especially those who supported the reconsolidated Democratic Party, convinced Villagomez to run for mayor.

Some well-known Democrats like former Gov. Froilan C. Tenorio and former Sen. Juan T. Guerrero are running for office, but not as Democrats.

Tenorio, who is seeking a House seat in Precinct 1, has joined the ruling Covenant Party while Guerrero is running for governor with other independent candidates.

In an official statement last in June, Torres said the new Democrats are “trustworthy visionaries” who are well known to the people and are very active in the community.

Many of the party’s directors, he said, are not only new to the organization but also new to politics.

He added that the new leaders of the party have figured out that if they want a new direction, “we must take action ourselves.”
