MATT Giovannoni, Tammy Ackerman, and Team Marpac reigned supreme in their respective divisions of Run Saipan’s 4th Annual Michelob Ultra Beer Mile at Marianas Beach Resort Saipan during the Budweiser Burger Fest on Saturday.
This year’s race was tougher than ever, challenging participants to drink four cans of Michelob Ultra while running one mile along the sandy shores under the grueling heat.
But that didn’t stop Matt Giovannoni from rising to the occasion.
Completing four laps and finishing one can of beer between each, Giovannoni powered through the punishing course — while getting progressively intoxicated — and crossed the finish line first with a time of 9:10, earning the title of Beer Mile king in the men’s division.
Coming in second was former champion Leith Poole, who clocked in at 9:24.
In the women’s division, inaugural champion Tammy Ackerman reclaimed her title, finishing first with a time of 13:19, followed by Robin Spaeth at 16:51.
In the corporate division, Team Marpac proved to be the squad to beat, taking the title with a team time of 7:26. The team included James Lee, Coby Santos, Chioni Dela Cruz, and John Diaz.
Run Saipan also recognized Marpac/Current CNMI for sponsoring the 4th Annual Michelob Ultra Beer Mile by supplying the beer, funding the prizes, and contributing $500 toward the event.
