Parish councils may form new group

The goal is to strengthen  programs on family values and address such problems  as domestic violence and other crimes.

Initially, Del Rosario said, the leaders of different parish councils have expressed their concern about the lack of financial support that hinders the implementation of their programs.

“We need to assess our problems and form an association,” he told Variety.

In San Antonio, he said the problem with criminality is not as serious  compared to the other villages, but residents remain vigilant.

Del Rosario noted that in Tanapag,  parishioners held a prayer rally against illegal drugs and gambling.

Tanapag Parish Council president William Lieto said the proposal to organize the councils is “very laudable.”

“This is also good for the church,” he added.

Their efforts in Tanapag are a “wake up call” for the other villages.

“This is everybody’s problem,” he said.

Through the creation of an association of parish councils, Lieto said “what Tanapag has started will gain more support.”
