Acting Health Secretary Pedro Untalan told the Variety Dr. Hormazdiar Dastoor who previously worked for the Commonwealth Health Center will return.
“We would have Dr. Dastoor on board in the coming days,” said Untalan who returned to work after taking a leave.
John Tagabuel, the acting health secretary during Untalan’s absence, told the Legislature the New Dialysis Center is tentatively scheduled to be opened by August 15.
During the House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare’s inquiry last month, health officials admitted the hospital doesn’t have a kidney specialist.
Although there is a medical consultant, officials further told legislators that advices from the kidney doctor were done through phone because he is based in Guam.
Health officials also underscored the need for permanent and present kidney doctor to look after patients with kidney problems and those undergoing hemodialysis.
“We are conducting aggressive recruitment of medical experts to further serve our clients,” Untalan said and noted that the opening of the dialysis center will better serve the growing number of residents in need of hemodialysis.
