WASC Chairman Commission Thomas C. Beecher said the action was taken after a careful study of a visiting committee report which noted many major improvements at DES.
The school’s next midterm review is set for 2015.
“The Commission is confident that your continuing efforts to improve the school will be reinforced by prompt attention to the critical areas for the follow-up integrated into the action plan,” Beecher told DES Principal Jonas Barcinas.
The midterm review is made up of a written report from the school outlining its progress in implementing the school-wide action plan and a one day visit by a two member team, Beecher said.
He said the midterm review should be completed by the end of the third year of the six-year term.
Barcinas said he is very proud of the hard work that their staff, teachers, students, parents, parent-teachers association and the Public School System leadership showed for DES.
In his letter to the principal, Beecher congratulated Barcinas for the “quality of instruction” that DES offers.
On February 23 to 25, the WASC Self-Study Visiting committee led by Joseph Laturnau, school renewal specialist, reported to Dandan Elementary School regarding its evaluation on the school’s programs.
In its progress report, the committee said the recommendations left by the 2006 Visiting Committee do not correspond exactly but the school has worked diligently to address the recommendations.
“The leadership of the Principal and Leadership Team, the professional commitment of the school faculty and staff, and the willingness of parents and community members to achieve Dandan’s mission and vision is evident,” the report said.
The report added that the self-study does accurately reflect the school’s program for students.
“The entire staff is very dedicated to helping students learn, improving their teaching and remaining true to their vision and the ESLRs. As they continue to grow and improve, they will expand upon these goals and students will continue to show improvement,” the report said.
