The Senate Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation and Commission, chaired by Sen. Pete A. Manglona, relayed its intention to Commonwealth Ports Authority Executive Director Efrain Camacho.
“We hope to meet and discuss with them our concerns,” Manglona, R-Rota, told Camacho during the Senate committee hearing on Thursday.
Camacho said he was scheduled to meet with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection representatives.
Camacho attended the committee hearing, together with CPA board members led by Vice Chairman Thomas P. Villagomez.
Manglona’s committee invited the CPA officials to discuss the ports authority’s preparations to meet the requirements set by the U.S. govenment once local immigration is federalized in November.
The senators told Camacho and CPA officials to be “aggressive” in meeting the federal requirements.
Manglona said if CPA fails to meet federal standards, Rota and Tinian airports might be classified as domestic airports.
Camacho assured the senators that CPA was “doing its best.”
