Election Commission reminds candidates about contributions

“Candidates can’t accept foreign contributions,” Guerrero said in an interview with the Variety.

His reminder came as the filing of candidacies for the Nov. 7 general elections ends today.

Guerrero said public law  prohibits candidates from receiving foreign  contributions.

The Office the Public Auditor and Attorney General’s Office will be checking on the candidates, he added.

“Whether a candidate wins or loses in the elections, he or she still must submit a final report on campaign contributions,” Guerrero said.

There’s a $100 daily fine for the failure of a candidate to submit a report on campaign contributions, he added.

“Until he or she submits final report, it won’t stop,” Guerrero said, referring to the $100 daily fine.

The commission has so far certified 23 candidates whose names will be listed on the official ballot.

Guerrero said a candidate can only become official once approved by the election commission.
