Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s latest executive order declaring the CNMI under a state of emergency announced that all of Aggreko’s 18 generators will be shut off today.
By Sept. 11, all Aggreko generators should be completely disconnected from CUC’s system as the company’s contract with the agency expires on the 12th.
The U.K-based Aggreko, a major global power rental firm, was awarded a contract last year to provide temporary electricity on Saipan following the collapse of most of the CNMI government’s power engines.
The firm received over $500,000 every month for its generators under a contract that took effect in Sept. 2008.
The governor said CUC is now able to produce as much as 55 megawatts of electricity with 15 megawatts reserved.
He said challenges remain but he is confident that CUC will overcome them with “the right management and enhanced policies.”
