Inos welcomed the students with a warm hafa adai and was very delighted to meet them.
Waseda University students arrived on a direct charter flight from Narita, Japan.
The charter is part of the on-going promotion with KNT and Continental and the students were very excited to be on island as part of their internship training in the marketing field.
Their training included the hotel inspection on island and knowing more about the indigenous culture of Rota.
The students also learned the marketing strategies involving charter flights, and how the private sector, the Rota community and the government are cooperating to ensure the flights’ success.
The guests praised the convenience of flying directly to Rota without having to transit via Saipan or Guam.
Through the support of the mayor’s office and Vivian Hocog, each of the students were hosted by local families.
When asked what they thought of Rota, one of the students, Tomomi Tokuyama, said the people here were “very friendly — everyone waves to you and the floral and fauna are certainly a must see as it is very peaceful and tranquil place to visit and the water is just breathtaking.”
In 2007, Waseda University celebrated its 125th anniversary.
One of the top private universities located in Shinjuku-ku Takadanobaba Japan, Waseda is a co-educational institution of higher learning with 50,000 students.
It has two senior high schools and a school of arts and architecture.
