Laura Brown, special education program assistance coordinator, yesterday said the two-day meeting will start on Sept. 2.
Related service providers are professionals with specialized skills who work for the PSS special education program, Brown said.
Also participating is Suzanne Lizama, acting special education coordinator of the University of Guam’s Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service.
Brown said they also invited officials of the Troops to Teachers program which helps eligible military personnel begin a new career as public school teachers.
Brown said they will discuss new inputs, procedures and programs from related service providers during the meeting which will also serve as an orientation for the participants.
This year, Brown said the special education program is facing a great challenge to maintain, if not improve, its services.
The program’s related services include audiology, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, psychological services, recreational therapy and transportation.
Brown said their goal is to increase the percentage of students with disabilities graduating from high school each year.
The program provides services to children from 3 to 21 years old.
Last year, Brown said they had 846 students.
The smallest class had eight students while the largest had 74, she added.
The meeting on Sept. 2 will be held at the PSS central office while the Sept. 4 meeting will be held at the Saipan World Resort.
