Cancer survivor hopes to see kids’ playroom at CHC

“That has been my dream since I was in Hawaii.”

While undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hawaii, Guerrero said he was moved by the reaction of a little girl, who was sick like him, but enjoying her time in the children’s playroom.

“She was sick like me, but because she was happy inside the playroom, she forgot her pain,” he said.

“I hope my dream will finally come true.”

Guerrero, together with her mother Vicky T. Guerrero, family and friends, on Monday turned over a donation of medical and educational equipment, as well as toys and books to the Public School System and the Commonwealth Health Center.

The donation came from Hawaii state Rep. Glenn Wakai’s Reach Out Pacific program,

Angelray Guerrero’s mother said her son had a “clear” magnetic resonance imaging result last month in Hawaii, and his next MRI will be in November.

“I’m getting better everyday,” said Angelray Guerrero, who will be 15 this October.

In a separate interview, Department of Public Health’s facility administrator John Flores said they were “still undecided where the children’s playroom will be located. We are still looking for space [at CHC],”

Flores said he met yesterday with Annie Benavente of the CHC Volunteers Association to discuss a children’s playroom at the hospital.

Angelray Guerrero and his family, in partnership with Wakai’s Reach Out Pacific program, have been soliciting toys and supplies for a children’s playroom at CHC.

In the early 1990s, there was a playroom for the CHC’s pediatric ward, but it was shut down. The social services office now occupies the room.
