Palooza party raises $5,000 for PAWS, Beautify CNMI

Angelo Villagomez of Beautify CNMI said all tickets were sold out even before the event.

He said the amount raised was enough to pay for island cleanups for a year.

“I never expected such a generous donation, especially after all the advertising they did and all the money they spent on staff, food, and drinks,” Villagomez said, referring to PIC.

“We would like to thank the community for supporting us in this project,” he added.

This is the second year for the Palooza event and Villagomez hopes to see another exciting event next year.

The guests rocked the stage at the Charley’s Cabaret on Saturday night as they danced to the hit songs of the ‘80s.

Wearing colorful dresses, leggings, shaggy hairstyles, over-sized bangles and other costumes — including those of the Ghostbusters — that were famous in the ‘80s, the guests were “too glad to go back two decades earlier.”

Maryan Ariola who came with her husband Glenn said it felt so great to be back in the ‘80s and reminisce their time as teenagers.

“It’s such fun to go back to the ‘80s while supporting two important organizations who take care of the environment,” she said.

Mike Babauta of Pacific Trading Corp. said the party brought back a lot of memories.

“I just love the hairstyles,” he said.

For Melanie Daly, being at the Palooza party made her feel great.

“It’s fantastic to go back and experience being young again,” she said.

Michael Mann described the Palooza event with one word —“awesome!”

Last year’s Palooza theme was “Back to the ‘70s.”

Beautify CNMI! is a coalition of concerned citizens, private groups, and government entities united to make the islands a better place to live in.

Established in March 1993 PAWS is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the health, care, welfare, and population control of cats and dogs in the CNMI and to the education of the public for animal care and rights.
