Letter to the Editor: Innovative minds

You claimed that thousands and thousands of hours, gas and water was spent to promote and run the noni project. And your impression is that, it was all a waste of those thousands.

Thousands? You did not mention that figure specifically in numbers in your comments at all. So without the figures or facts even, I’m thinking you are just making assumptions. However, I do agree that the noni project is yet to materialize to its full intention. But hey, thenNoni is a tree. It produces oxygen. It is environmental friendly. It fights global warming. It helps keep the ozone layer stable. Nothing was lost in planting these trees around the island. The last time, I glanced quickly over the Republican pamphlet I saw planting around the island as an agenda. But you already know that it’s done. So just duplicate the task if you want to, go ahead and plant some more trees, go green I encourage you.

I have not met anyone who rolled their eyes on the issue of this project. All I know is that the funds were used to pay for the job to be done. Funds for nursery supplies were needed, wages for workers (the employees) were needed. There are jobs provided. There were jobs to be done. Yes jobs. Yet you mention that the project was stalled and the funds squandered on something else. “Got proof?” I don’t think so. Got assumptions? Yes you do.

What you failed to mention in your letter are the real improvement, changes and accomplishment in the three, (yes three years and eight months, not four years) that this administration has made. The present administration has been very innovative in finding ways to generate funds to help with our local economy. The Kastiyu Wildlife Park, I read some very positive comments about it’s outcome. That park is generating funds. It is working. It is helping our local economy. A dog control program has been established and put into full operation. It is generating much needed funds as well. Dogs are getting tagged. Dogs are being adopted. The stray dog problem has been eradicated. Tinian should be the island to visit. The place to go to the place to see. Yes, this program is helping our local economy.

Another major improvement that you failed to mention is our road. I don’t see or read anymore bitter comments about our so called “pothole ville” that we live in. So far, I have not read any complaints of the conditions of the roads anymore in the papers. I really don’t care if the funds for the road improvement had been there ages and ages ago, what matters is the job got done during this administration. Yes it’s done.

Another innovative economic improver is the Abalone project, that is still in its infancy. You see, this administration tries to utilize its own local resources to improve our economy. It knows full well that getting outside investors to come into our island is a long and costly process. It knows that outside investors are not…always…guaranteed. No other administration that I know of ever thought of improving our local economy business-wise. That is, because none of those before were prominent business men in the first place. The way that this present administration that I know of ever though of improving our local economy business-wise. That is, because none of those before were prominent business men in the first place. The way that this present administration think is, “we can’t get investors, let us see what we can do with what we already have.” Kastiyu, dog control, why not abalone too. In order to achieve success for the abalone project, conservation measures had to be accounted for. No-take zones were implemented after the Marina Dock was face lifted. If you snorkel at the Marina today, you will come across spawns of clams. That is the perfect site for such project. Abalone is a mollusk that is not only edible, but produces pearl and it is also exportable. Business minds, innovative minds are what we need for change and this administration already has it. And…yes it did. Peace.
