Wabol off to Cook Islands for Pacific Mini Games

After a series of try outs three months ago, the CNMI golf community led by Refaluwasch Golfer Association President Jordom Kosam came up with a five-person team that will compete in Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

They were Ralph Yumul, Jess I. Wabol, Ben Duenas, Carl Hocog and former Department of Public Works secretary, Jose Demapan.

The team however, ran out of time raising funds for their travel cost and practicing at the same time Kosam said. As a result, they were only able to have a fund just enough for one person, and they decided to pick Wabol to be that one.

“We tried to beat the odds this year by trying our best to get a complete team in a very short time,” Kosam said.

He added that they had burned more time in looking for sponsors then actually dedicating to practice.

“It would be useless to participate with the minimal time of practice. We should be able to start early next year to plan ahead for 2011 Pacific Games in Naumea, New Caledonia,” he said.

Yesterday, RGA gave Wabol $450 check to represent the CNMI in the Pacific Mini Games.
